Iran objection to the Sakharov Prize
Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman considered the Sakharov Prize nomination as affected by political schemes, saying: It is better for the European Parliament to consider various instances of human rights violation in European countries rather than issuing politically-oriented rewards.Answering a reporter’s question regarding the awarding of the Sakharov Prize to Nasrin Sotoudeh and Jafar Panahi, Ramin Mehmanparast said: regrettably the European Union and its affiliated bodies have a selective and objective approach to human rights, and by bringing up such matters, it follows political schemes.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman considered the European Parliament’s overlooking of the Zionists’ villainy in the occupied lands, and its concentration on specific matters as indicative of its selective outlook and said: instead of issuing politically-biased awards, the European Parliament might as well attend to various instances of human rights violation in the European countries such as the abject conditions of the refugees and emigrants, bias against Muslims, and the squelching of rightful socio-economic demands of European subjects.
